Understanding Chronic Disorganization: A Presentation for Therapists
02-Aug-2011Do you have clients who are consistently late?...or whose bosses complain about them not getting work done?...who don’t pay their bills on time?...who struggle with over-shopping, or who value their possessions over important relationships?
Some of your clients may be chronically disorganized and the conditions for which they seek your help may be complicated by their disorganization. In this free Institute for Chronic Disorganization (ICD) Speakers Bureau presentation offered in the Chicago area and suburbs, you’ll learn to identify chronic disorganization, its causes, success strategies and resources. You'll also be introduced to a collaborative model to help your chronically disorganized clients realize even greater progress.
Dr. Roland Rotz, a clinical psychologist who has pioneered the collaborative approach between professional organizers and therapists, has this to say about the benefits of collaboration:
“Therapists are sometimes blinded unknowingly by client's attempts to avoid talking about matters of shame and pain. Despite best efforts, clients avoid discussing their chaos of "stuff." I realized this hidden agenda years ago and began working closely with Heidi Schulz, a professional organizer. She and other professional organizers have worked closely with therapists like me to uncover objects of extreme attachment that cause shame and pain. Without the collaboration of professional organizers, therapists run the risk of colluding with clients in this much hidden disorder. With joined effort, we become a supportive and therapeutic team for significant change in our clients.”
Presenters Patty Wolf and her colleague, Sue Becker, are both Certified Professional Organizers in Chronic Disorganization, a designation of the ICD, as well as members of the ICD's Speakers Bureau. Contact StuffBusters to schedule this presentation for your staff or clinical organization.
